Got this from Lin Workman:
I got mentioned on David Petersen's blog, and he posted the sketch card I gave him. He does the comic Mouse Guard and did the jedi mouse for Shorty's sketchbook at the CGS Super Show I went to in Reading.

PULITZER FOR SPARKY!
When I was a Cartoonist in Residence at the Charles M. Schulz Museum in April 2008, I met a nice man named Karl Jacque. He is presently campaigning to get Sparky a Pulitzer Prize. There is a category for Editorial Cartoonist (one day I hope an MSCA member gets that), but none for a cartoonist like Schulz. There is a special awards category of Pulitzer Prizes that Sparky would come under. Mr. Jacque is (and I am) asking everyone possible to write the following address and ask Mr. Gissler, whose decision is the winner of this award, to give it to Sparky. I am copying Mr. Jacque’s e-mail to be below.

Hi Kevin,
I remember meeting you and talking to you about my campaign to have Sparky recognized as a Pulitzer Prize recipient. This is one of the only awards he has not received. I am asking that everyone influenced by Sparky in their careers write a letter to Professor Sig Gissler at Columbia University. This letter would explain how Sparky influenced and started so many careers in cartooning and art.
Nice to hear from you. As I mentioned to you Sparky was not an editorial cartoonist so does not qualify in that category. Most years a special citation or Pulizer award is given to one or two people. Last year Bob Dylan received the award. This award has been given to Alex Haley for the book "Roots". To many Jazz greats. To Oscar & Hammerstein for "Oklahoma". Ray Bradbury, author. John Coltrane, composer. Duke Ellington and George Gershwin. This award does not go to a panel of judges. It is given by Professor Sig Gissler at Columbia University Administrator of the Awards. He seems to favor Jazz greats. A letter to Professor Gissler from all cartoonists and artists that were influenced by Sparky would be great. I thought of mentioning that Sparky contributed to Jazz when he used Vince Guaraldi's music in his Peanut's movies on TV. Who knows how political this award is?< /DIV>
Google "Pulizer Prize" and look at the categories. Check out the special awards or citations given out since the 30's.
Read the history of this award. I have always imagined someone sitting in a foxhole writing a story about war with bullets flying overhead. In history, someone exposing graft by a crooked governor. There are different categories. Actually one on criticism. I think a cartoon character like Lucy might be a perfect example of criticism. Entries for individual awards such as books, letters, journalism, criticism and editorial cartoons are different. So many individual copies are sent in with $50. These entries go before boards and are voted on. Check out the strict rules on entries and deadlines.
The special citation or award given by Professor Sig Gissler does not go before a board. This is his choice. I am trying to get everyone that Sparky influenced to send a letter nominating him in this category.
Because only one person received the award last year I feel the Professor does not have a huge list built up ahead of time. He would be giving the award to two people every year to catch up. Please pass on this e-mail to all of your contacts.
